How to Start Freelancing in Graphic Design with No Clients Yet?

I’m interested in starting a freelancing career in graphic design, but I’m struggling with one major challenge — I don’t have any clients yet. I understand that building a strong portfolio is important, but I’m not sure where to begin if I haven’t worked with real clients before.

Should I create sample projects, redesign existing brands for practice, or offer free services at first to gain experience? Also, which platforms would you recommend for beginners (Fiverr, Upwork, direct outreach, etc.)?

I’d really appreciate advice on how to position myself, set beginner-friendly rates, and stand out in a competitive market. Any practical steps or personal experiences would be very helpful.
