One of the most common mistakes beginner graphic designers make is choosing the wrong color mode for their project. It is essential to know that digital screens use the RGB model (Red, Green, Blue), while printers use CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black).
- If you design a flyer in RGB, the colors might look vibrant and bright on your monitor, but once you print it, they will often look dull or faded. This happens because screens emit light, while paper reflects it. Always make sure to set your document to CMYK before starting any print-related work like business cards or posters. On the other hand, for social media posts or web design, RGB is the way to go. Understanding this simple rule will save you a lot of time and prevent any color issues with your clients.
