With the rapid evolution of web development, a common debate has resurfaced: should developers stick to Vanilla CSS or rely on frameworks like Tailwind, Bootstrap, or Sass? In the past, frameworks were essential for handling cross-browser compatibility and providing pre-built components that saved hours of manual coding. However, with the introduction of modern CSS features like CSS Grid, Flexbox, Custom Properties (variables), and the new :has() selector, the "Vanilla" experience has become incredibly powerful.

Many senior developers are now arguing that adding a heavy framework layer can sometimes lead to unnecessary bloat and a steeper learning curve for new team members. On the other hand, the utility-first approach of Tailwind CSS offers unparalleled speed for rapid prototyping and ensures a consistent design system across large-scale projects.

I would love to hear from the OFHIT community: What is your current workflow? Are you moving back toward native CSS solutions as the browser support improves, or do you find that the ecosystem and community plugins of a framework are still indispensable for professional client work? Let’s discuss the pros and cons of each approach regarding performance, maintainability, and long-term scalability.
